While both Profhilo and dermal fillers are made up of HA, their functions and results differ in multiple ways.
Dermal fillers are injected to restore loss of volume in a specific part of the face and stay “fixed” in the area without migrating to the surrounding skin. They perform “locally” by reshaping the facial structure, plumping up deep wrinkles, and adding volume to certain areas.
Unlike fillers, Profhilo consists solely of high-grade HA and aims to improve overall skin quality in the target area without changing the shape or structure of your face. It spreads evenly beneath the skin, flowing over the surrounding areas to boost hydration and remodel sagging tissues.
The practice has shown that Profhilo is complementary to, rather than competitive with dermal fillers. Used properly, together they are able to produce incredible results for your skin.
Why Is Profhilo So Effective?
Pure Formulation
Profhilo does not contain any synthetic additives, such as BDDE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether) or Lycodine. This unique formula provides a lower risk of side effects and hypersensitive reactions while making sure you stay away from synthetic chemicals.
High Concentration of HA
In a 2ml syringe, there is a total of 64mg of exceptionally high-grade hyaluronic acid which is considered to be one of the highest concentrations of HA among injectables.
Stabilised Blend of High-molecular-weight HA (H-HA) and Low-molecular-weight HA (L-HA)
Profhilo contains a hybrid of 32 mg of H-HA (1100-1400Kda) and 32 mg of L-HA (80-100Kda). The H-HA works with the lower layer (dermis) restoring the lost volume and creating a lifting effect. On the other hand, L-HA targets the top layer (epidermis) providing deep hydration, while stimulating the natural synthesis of collagen and elastin.
The use of a stabilised mix of H-HA and L-HA suggests that it takes longer to break down. This means that the components have more time to work before being released from your body, delivering gradual long-lasting results.

Consultation With Dr. Larry Wu
The purpose of this consultation is to answer all the questions you may have regarding Profhilo as well as to evaluate if this treatment will benefit you. Further, Dr. Wu will examine your full medical history, and make a decision on the best way to proceed with the Profhilo according to the area you wish to treat.
Preparing for Your Treatment
You should avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory medications for at least 24 hours prior to the procedure. These measures will help to prevent bruising.
During the Procedure
The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas to be treated. After applying anaesthetic cream where necessary, Dr. Wu will make a series of small injections into the chosen areas. You may experience a slight stinging sensation as the substance is pushed into the skin, but this will only last a few seconds.
In the case of facial treatment, Profhilo is injected in a common pattern of 10 injection points (5 points on each side of the face). These points are also known as the Bio-Aesthetic Points (BAP).
After Your Treatment
You may notice small bumps appear at the injection sites which should resolve within 24-48 hours. The Profhilo treatment requires minimal social downtime so you will be able to continue with your daily routine as usual.
Aftercare DOs and DON’Ts
Do:
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure, apply an SPF30+ sunscreen
- Stay away from exercise for at least 24 hours
Don’t:
- Massage the treated area
- Apply makeup for 24-48 hours
- Drink alcohol
- Go swimming
- Do any cosmetic treatments for 2 weeks

Is Profhilo safe?
Due to its exceptionally pure HA free of synthetic additives, Profhilo is biocompatible and offers greater safety with mild side effects (redness, swelling). Since its launch in Italy in 2015, more than 150,000 around the world have tried the Profhilo treatment and there was nobody who has reported any serious adverse reactions to the injectable.
Despite the extremely high HA concentration, it demonstrates a low inflammatory profile, pro-healing advantages and is backed by clinical studies.
Is Profhilo suitable for everyone?
Profhilo is an ideal choice for all patients wanting to treat visible signs of ageing and improve the overall texture, tone, and elasticity of their skin. That being said, It can also serve as an excellent measure to prevent wrinkles and loss of volume.
Profhilo should not be used for individuals with blood disorders or those undergoing immunosuppressive therapy. Also, it is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
How many treatments do I need?
To maximise its cell-renewing properties, Profhilo is performed in 2 sessions, with a month interval in between (1 cycle). Additionally, the third treatment can follow, another six months after.
When will I see the results?
While you will notice significant hydration within a week after the first treatment, its full effects don’t set in until about 1 month after the procedure. Lifting and tightening effects will gradually develop within 3-6 months.
How long does Profhilo last?
Generally, the results from Profhilo treatments will last for 9 months to 1 year. However, the duration of the effects will vary depending on a range of various factors. Keeping a healthy diet and lifestyle, staying hydrated, avoiding excessive alcohol and smoking together with a good skincare regime will help you to prolong your results.
We do recommend repeating another cycle (2 sessions, 1-month interval) after 6 months.
What side effects should I be aware of?
As with any injectable, there is a possibility of side effects. However, with Profhilo, they are minimal. You may experience bruising and swelling at the injection sites but these will subside within 24-48 hours. Some patients also report a little ‘redness’ and ‘tenderness’ which can last up to one week.
